5 Christmas Decoration Trends To Consider This Festive Season

We’re almost certain that a large percentage of you – like us – haven’t got around to decorating the house for Christmas just yet. After the post we shared last week, sharing our tips on how to decorate your fireplace for the festive season, we had so many replies and DM’s telling us you were in exactly the same position as we were in. Still a bare tree and not even a twinkle of a light.

So today we’re continuing our festive series by sharing the five Christmas decoration trends you might want to consider this month, which are all available still to buy on the high street or online. There really is no excuse.

Making a Statement

A simple way of decorating for Christmas is to really play up to statement baubles on a slightly plainer tree.

From spikes to embellished birds, both seen here at the M&S home range above, the secret to making it feel cohesive and perfectly style is to have one common theme running throughout – maybe jewelled tones, perhaps glitter, maybe metallics?

Once you have your chosen “story” you can shop till your heart's content.

Pretty in Pink

A trend that makes a welcome return Christmas after Christmas, Pretty in Pink combines a whole roster of delicate shades from candyfloss to rose gold, snow white and soft peach.

And there’s a reason why this trend doesn’t seem to be disappearing any time soon, as it works incredibly well in a variety of interiors, especially greys and neutral tones.

As you can see in this latest Matalan campaign, a great alternative to tinsel is to use a feather garland, adding a softness to the tree whilst looking chic with a contemporary twist.

Back to Nature

Scandinavian elements have been popular in Christmas decoration trends for seasons now, and this year we’ve seen a continuation in our love for Nordic influences.

Homesense, for example, are embracing natural woods, greenery, forest wildlife, simple Scandi tealight holders, frosted tip garlands and pared back Christmas trees. This whole theme feels incredibly cosy and wouldn’t look too out of place in a log cabin in the middle of Norway.

Grab a hot chocolate, throw a faux fur rug casually over the armchair and snuggle down to watch the first drops of snow arrive.

First Signs Of Frost

If metallics are your bag, then you’ll be pleased to know that silver is one of the most prominent shades of this season, as Wilko proves here in a floor to ceiling scheme.

Alongside a frosted faux tree sits a range of white, clear and silver baubles and tree decorations, including embellished stars, feathered finishes, angel wings, and unicorn motifs – all of which are made even more magical by the addition of holographic surfaces to create a Winter Wonderland feel.

Crown Jewels

British online homeware emporium Amara sure do know how to make Christmas a glamorous affair.

With a mix of jewel tones, such as emerald and midnight blue, teamed with rich gold, this trend just goes to show, sometimes, more really is more.

At the heart of this story is entertaining, so look at creating a wow moment on your dining table, from gold fruit (you can achieve this by spraying pieces of fruit the day before your party), to a mix of soft lighting, from candlesticks to tealight holders along the table.

This is potentially one our of favourite trends for the sheer elegance of it all.
