5 Kitchen Designs We Can't Stop Thinking About

Today we’re talking kitchens. Let’s be more specific - unique kitchen design we’re slightly obsessed with. From the clever storage tricks the owners have integrated, to the stunning but unusual colour choices, these five rooms have got us wanting to rip out our shaker cabinets and start all over again.

We hope this post whet’s your appetite and gives you a dollop of inspiration when it comes to redecorating your kitchen – I’m sure you’ll agree, some of the design choices below are brave, but with risk can come an amazing payoff.

Swoon Worthy’s Bohemian Green Kitchen

We’ve mentioned our love for boho-glam interior design blogger, Kimberly Duran of Swoon Worthy, on a number of occasions, but with her latest design reveal, we couldn’t wait to share.

By extending her house in Shrewsbury, UK, she was able to create the most amazing, light-filled, open plan kitchen and dining area. Working with John Lewis of Hungerford, Kimberly has created a modern, yet completely timeless, space to cook and entertain in.

We love the small details such as the charging cupboard so wires and laptops are kept hidden, the pantry, the marble shelf which glides seamlessly into the flush counter tops, and the statement lighting – especially the pink House Of light above the kitchen sink.

A Statement Island From Three Birds Renovations

Never before have I seen a kitchen island painted in a shade as rich as this from Australian design team, Three Birds Renovations. In House 9, their second to most recent project, the team decided to add a pop of colour to an-otherwise monochrome space with this green island with brass hardware.

The curved edges are juxtaposed perfectly with the more structured linear cabinets, while the farmers sink inset in the island provides a great flow from the oven to the worktops.

Glass fronted cabinets are a great alternative to open shelving, as you have ample space to showcase pretty crockery and decorative bits, but there's no worry about dust gathering.

A Canadian Kitchen Success with Karin Bohn

One of our all-time favourite interior designers, Karin Bohn is the founder of interior design company House of Bohn and has her own Youtube channel, where she shows projects, day in the life topics and even how she renovated her own townhouse.

Her kitchen is unrecognisable from the original space, and although we’ve always been huge fans of Karin’s luxe approach to design, this Vancouver reno really did blow us away.

Despite the space being in the middle of the house with no direct sunlight, the dark cabinetry doesn’t feel closed in and the contrast of the wooden island top, against the marble on the remaining surfaces, was a clever choice – picking out the wooden beams in the dining room and tying the space together effortlessly.

Making A Statement with The Pink House

Emily Murray, author and founder of interior design blog The Pink House, has created the most amazing statement kitchen in her south east London family home. Never before have we seen such a clash of colour and prints that work this well.

The thought process to this space was about connecting the outdoors in, with a Wes Anderson design ethos running throughout. From the floral wallpaper, to the Bert & May green chevron tiles, there’s are so many botanical elements, whilst still remaining modern and ever so quirky.

I think our favourite part of this whole space has to be the pink tiled breakfast bar with gold wire bar stools. Who wouldn’t want to sit here on a morning, quietly before the rest of the house wakes up, and enjoy a croissant or two?

Amber Interiors Puts the Modern in Modern Farmhouse

We’ll often look to Amber Interiors if we’re searching for a little Californian design inspiration. LA-based Amber Lewis has such an incredible sense of style, that even though each project has its own unique finish, you can see Amber’s hand-print running throughout.

We spoke previously about the beauty of glass fronted cabinetry, and this kitchen is proof in the pudding of how stylish it can look with thin metal profiles on the cabinets and co-coordinating rustic wood inners.

With bi-fold doors and an interior which matches perfectly with the facade of the house, it’s hard to see where the inside stops and garden begins.

Which of these kitchens makes you swoon the most? They’re all very different and all have elements we’d love to integrate in our own homes, so the choice is too difficult to decide a favourite. Can’t we just blend elements of them all or just have a house large enough for five kitchens - one to suit whatever mood we wake up in? No?
